The area of scientific and research activity of the employees of the Department is the design, operation and diagnostics of energy systems, machines and devices as well as technical facilities in which energy is processed, taking into account their impact on the environment.

The directions of research conducted in the Department include research related to: numerical modeling of technical phenomena and processes, with particular emphasis on the issues of energy storage and transmission, as well as noise reduction in fluid machines. Employees also deal with issues related to the design and flow, acoustic and energy tests of systems and devices (including compression and absorption heat pumps, compressors and fans, air heaters, heat and exhaust gas recuperation systems, air conditioning devices).

Design and analysis of the operation of power boilers, including boilers for unconventional fuels (biomass and waste). Research on the gasification process, production and use of alternative fuels. The use of intelligent systems in the broadly understood traditional and renewable energy, with particular emphasis on the issues referred to in the literature as Smart City.

Design and operation of sedimentation devices for water treatment and renewal of water, as well as technological use of the sedimentation process, in particular multiflux sedimentation. Numerical modeling of sedimentation and erosion processes in settling tanks and dust collectors.
